Music plays a large part in the life of All Saints’ Church. Through services, rehearsals and concerts, it is a musical hub for the local community. The Parish Choir sing on most Sundays throughout the year and are sometimes joined by children.
The Church Choir sings for the 10:30 am Eucharist on most Sundays throughout the year, with a break after Christmas, Easter and during the Summer. The choir is made up of keen local singers, who are supported by four paid Staff Singers, who act as section leaders. They rehearse at 9:30 am on Sunday mornings, and once a month sing an evening service, which is often Choral Evensong. If you are not able to sing every week, this does not preclude you from joining.
The choir has a wide repertoire and benefits from a wonderful acoustic in which to sing. Occasionally the choir sing in concerts and perform larger repertoire. In recent years this has included Faure’s Requiem and Vaughan Williams’ Five Mystical Songs. The group is a sociable one and sometimes travel to sing and has recently sung at Peterborough and Southwark Cathedrals.
Membership of the choir is open to all. An ability to read music is necessary. If you wish to find out more or try the choir out, please contact the Director of Music, Alexander Turner: [email protected]
The Staff Singers are paid members of the choir who are trained musicians and support the work of the Parish Choir. They also sometimes sing alone as a quartet. There are currently no vacancies, but if you wish to audition to deputise for regular services, or for extra events like Weddings and Funerals, please email the Director of Music.
Our children’s choir, Treblemakers, is open to children in school years 3-6. They currently rehearse on Thursdays after school. They learn a mix of music, as well as how to sing and musical theory. They join with the Parish Choir at points during the year as well as singing on their own. If you are interested and would like to find out more, please contact the Director of Music.
Youth Choir (from September 2021)
The Youth Choir is for children in years 7-11. They rehearse weekly and join with the other choirs during the year, including at Christmas and Easter. Rehearsals are a blend of repertoire and vocal tuition to help navigate the changes of adolescent voices.
