The church choir sing for the Eucharist most weeks, as well as for regular services of Choral Evensong, and other liturgies during the year which include candlelit carol services, an annual Requiem and services in Holy Week. They are supported by four paid section leaders/senior choral scholars who, along with the volunteers, make up a very friendly and sociable choir with a high-quality and consistent output. The choir does not rehearse during the week, and so membership from those that cannot commit to every performance is warmly encouraged. Scores and recordings are made available in advance of each performance to aid preparation.
The choir has a wide repertoire, from plainsong to new compositions, and the church benefits from a fine acoustic in which to sing. They perform in concerts at All Saints’, and recent performances have included Vaughan Williams’ Five Mystical Songs and Duruflé’s Requiem, Rutter’s Gloria, Handel’s Messiah and Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols. The choir also travel to sing, and have performed at Guildford and Southwark Cathedrals, and at the Chapel Royal, Hampton Court Palace.
The choir is un-auditioned, but an ability to read music is necessary. If you wish to find out more, or try the choir out, please contact Alexander: dom.allsaints@parishofputney.co.uk
Choral Scholarships
The church supports four Junior Choral Scholarships for those in education between the ages of 16-19, who wish to pursue music further. As well as singing with the church choir, opportunities are given in solos, conducting, as well as one-to-one teaching, and a scholarship of £500. Read more for details.
In addition, there are also four Section Leaders (Senior Choral Scholars) who ensure consistency from week to week and allow a flexible membership for the volunteers. Vacancies will be posted here.
